Sweet Little Valentine

Better late than never we feel with this update...

Junior Chocolatier, Jessica and I had such a fun time with the children at our Valentines chocolate workshop that we had to share some pics with you. The workshop was organised by our friends and courtyard neighbours at Welbeck, the Harley Gallery. In addition to being a quite brilliant gallery, museum and craft shop they put together fun, educational and impressive programmes of arts and craft activities for children throughout the year. We were thrilled to be asked to take part in their very first chocolate event.

Calm before the storm...

Jessica and I particularly enjoy working with children. Of course they love chocolate but they also love getting their hands dirty so it's a win, win as far as they're concerned. Much more than that we see first hand the shy, moody and timid walk through the door and the proud, happy, achievers walk back out again. One parent said "this is the best day I have spent with my son in years".

Concentration!

The children paid much more attention to a short presentation about the origins of cacao and bean to bar production than I would have ever imagined. Little Jessica (in her bright pink t-shirt) repeated the entire process to her mum when she arrived home. Very impressive! As were her totally original truffles ; )

Lovely to see the children working together..and working so nicely with their parents and grandparents.

After the truffle making session we got busy with the lollies. Things got very messy.

I showed the children how to make real hot chocolate they could make easy peasy at home. No powder? Yeah..it was a brain scrambler. They loved it and as a special treat I brought along a freshly baked batch of shortbread love hearts which they dunked with glee.

Wrapping and ribboning chaos at the craft table ensued...

The chaos was worth it..if only to witness the joy on this cherubic face

It was hands down one of the best workshops we have ever done and we have to say, all thanks go to the little ones. Oh..and the Harley Gallery.
